Discover the incredible prehistoric past of Idaho at the Idaho Museum of Natural History through our captivating "Dinosaurs from the Mountain" exhibit. Once the dominant rulers of this land, these ancient creatures from 100 million years ago are brought back to life, and your support makes it all possible. While Idaho's unique geology makes finding dinosaur fossils a challenge, our dedicated team, led by Assistant Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology, Assistant Professor Brandon Peecook, has unearthed remarkable specimens. From armored plant-eaters to ancient crocodiles and even an early relative of the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, our exhibit showcases the awe-inspiring diversity of Idaho's prehistoric inhabitants. We're especially proud to present the Oryctodromeus, Idaho's official state dinosaur, among others. With around 40 authentic fossil specimens and three impressive 3D-printed dinosaur skeletons, this exhibit is a journey through time like no other. The crown jewel is the 9-foot-tall Gigantoraptor skeleton, guarding real fossilized eggs, a collaborative masterpiece brought to life by the Idaho Virtualization Lab and Idaho State University's welding and auto collision repair and refinishing program. This intricate process began with the precise design of each bone by Peecook, Rob Gay, and Tim Gomes at the IVL, taking over a year and a half to complete. Autobody students at the College of Technology then lent their skills to paint the pieces, while welding students at the college meticulously constructed the massive skeleton. Their technical expertise and custom, piece-by-piece approach culminated in a breathtaking exhibit that stands tall over the remains of the ancient eggs. The "Dinosaurs from the Mountain" exhibit is not just about the past; it's a testament to the incredible teamwork, expertise, and dedication that goes into bringing history back to life.Our museum, now in its 90th year serving Idahoans, stands as a testament to your unwavering commitment.
